Before Mass

  • Prepare the vessels and items to be used for Mass
    • Bread, water and wine to be placed on the gifts table
    • Corporal, Purificators, Ciboria, Chalices, Lavabo bowl and towel to be placed on credence table
    • The Gospel book stand is to be placed on the altar
    • The Sacramentary – at server chair
    • The Lectionary – on lector’s table
    • The Gospel Book – on vesting case
    • Be sure that Sacramentary, Lectionary and Gospel Book are set for appropriate celebration
    • Check the Holy Water fonts and fill as needed
    • Be sure that servers have arrived.  Assist in finding substitute servers if needed (The servers are usually willing to do this if asked
    • Assure that the servers place all of the vessels and items in their proper place for Mass
    • Double check that the sound system is turned on

After Mass

  • Bring all vessels into sacristy for Father to purify – chalices, ciboria
  • Make sure that lectors have brought Lectionary and Gospel Book into sacristy
  • After 7:30 and 9:00 Mass replace the Gospel book stand on altar. 
  • Tidy credence table as necessary.

Needed for each Mass

 5:00 p.m.         One bag of hosts in large ciborium, Large cruet with appropriate amount of wine, Two chalices, four smaller ciboria, two purificators

7:30 a.m.         About 200 hosts in large ciborium, large cruet with appropriate amount of wine, two chalices, for smaller ciboria, two purificators

9:00 a.m.         Large ciborium filled with hosts (a bag and a half), large cruet with appropriate amount of wine, four chalices, four smaller ciboria, four purificators

10:30               Large ciborium filled with hosts (a bag and a half), large cruet with appropriate amount of wine, four chalices, four smaller ciboria, four purificators

The hosts come in bags of 250.  The average number of people at each Mass is:

  • 5:00     about 250
  • 7:30     about 200
  • 9:00     about 350
  • 10:30   about 300

 (If there is a large amount of Consecrated Hosts in the tabernacle, the priest may instruct you to put out fewer hosts for Mass)
