Pastor: Fr. John Sauer

I was ordained in 1985.  My first assignment was as associate pastor at St. Stanislaus Parish in Winona and religion teacher at Cotter High School.  I have since served as associate pastor at St. Francis in Rochester and St. John the Baptist in Mankato.  I taught at Lourdes and Loyola High Schools.  My first pastorate was at St. Edward’s in Austin and Our Lady of Loretto in Brownsdale.  I then was asked by Bishop Vlazny to become rector of the Cathedral in Winona.  During the last 12 years I have also been pastor of Immaculate Conception in Wilson and St. Casimir in Winona which were linked with the Cathedral at various times.

I love music and enjoy singing.  I am part of a choir in the Twin Cities, Kantorei.  We began as alumni of St. John’s and St. Ben’s but we now have singers from a variety of backgrounds.  I also enjoy traveling and reading – I usually have two or three books going at any one time.  I love to cook.  In fact, I took a cooking class in Paris while I was on my sabbatical.

In the four months prior to my arrival in Owatonna and Litomysl I had the privilege of being on sabbatical.  I spent time at the American College in Louvain, Belgium.

I feel blessed to be here at Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity.  I look forward to meeting and working with you.  May Jesus touch our hearts and make them like his own. Contact Fr. Sauer

Pastoral AssociateWendy Cichanski Caduff

Wendy joined the pastoral team of Sacred Heart in August, 2014.  She is excited to live and work in the southern part of the state and see what God has in store for her here! Prior to this, she taught for eight years in the Catholic school system in St. Cloud and also worked in parish and campus ministry at the Newman Center in St. Cloud for 15 years. She is married to her partner Ben and together they are raising their son, Augustin, born in St. Paul in January 2014 and entrusted to them by his birth mom through the gift of adoption and the grace of God.  Wendy has a deep love and respect for the Earth and is aware of traces of the Divine all around her. Besides an interest in ecology and cosmology, she also is drawn to the writings of many feminist theologians and continues to enjoy reading in this field. When she’s not reading her theology books, she loves spending time wild bird watching, tending to her flower gardens, practicing yoga, taking in theater, scrapbooking, sharing a glass of wine with good friends, and getting lost in a good piece of fiction. Being an animal lover, she is a supporter of the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud and Protecting Paws Rescue in Rosemount, where both her pets were adopted: her Yorkie-Poo (Murphy) and her standard poodle (Jose).  Wendy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN and a Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from St. John’s University School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, MN. She is a certified Lay Ecclesial Minister using Minnesota Catholic Education Association (MCEA) standards and procedures approved by the USCCB.  Her most important call to ministry, though, came through the Sacrament of Baptism, where we are all anointed with God’s own Spirit and given the responsibility to live our vocational call in the world!
